Although I am a personal development blogger by profession, I am in no way a mental health professional. See my disclaimer for more info.
Feel like your life could use a little spice? I’ll show you how to romanticize your life and give off main character energy.
Does your life feel dull or repetitive?
As much as I love a good routine, it can feel a little too much like a routine sometimes. It gets kind of boring doing the same thing and having the same expectations everyday. This gives me a sense of assurance, but also a sense of repetition. Do you get what I’m saying?
After so long, I took charge and started incorporating small, yet powerful habits to make each day feel special and unique. With these changes, I’m starting to look forward to my daily routine and I feel more motivated to tackle each and every day.
If you can relate, I’m ready to show you how to romanticize your life and be the main character — because we all deserve it!
Are you ready? Let’s get into it!
This post is all about how to romanticize your life.
What does it mean to romanticize your life?
So, what does it actually mean to romanticize your life?
If you’re on TikTok, I’m sure you’ve seen some videos on this topic. I sure know I saw tons of videos for months.
I started to wonder, “What the heck does that mean?” Then I did some research and realized it’s actually a pretty simple concept.
Romanticizing your life is practicing small habits everyday to make life brighter and more enjoyable. Sometimes you could get stuck in your daily routine and things can start to feel boring and repetitive.
But, romanticizing even small things like drinking your morning coffee or commuting to work can make a big difference on your mental health and quality of life.
You aim to do things that make you feel good, grateful, hopeful, mindful, and appreciate life for what it is. Be kind to yourself and celebrate all of your wins — no matter how big or small.
Feel that “main character” energy!
How to Romanticize Your Life:
1. Reflect in a journal
A big part of romanticizing your life is doing different self-care activities. As you likely know by now, journaling is among my favorites.
You can do this at any point in the day, whether it’s when you wake up, during your lunch break, or right before you hit the sheets at night. There’s no specific time you have to journal!
The purpose is to have somewhere to talk about your thoughts, ideas, and emotions — and feel comfortable doing so!
FREE DAILY JOURNAL
This journal is my favorite because it includes a section to mark how you’re feeling before you start writing, plus just enough lines to let all your feelings out.
Journaling is absolutely one of my favorite ways to practice emotional/mental self care, and my free daily journal can help you do just that.

2. Take things slow
How can you enjoy life if everything’s moving so fast? I know it can be hard sometimes, especially when juggling school, work, relationships, personal life, and more.
But it’s totally worth trying to slow down and live in the present moment. If not, you’ll probably lose your sanity and all focus on what you’re doing.
Or at least that’s how I feel when I’m super busy, haha.
I like to do things like observing the beautiful sky on a sunny day and do one thing at a time to be more present. You should try it sometime!
3. Take an everything shower
Sure, your everyday shower is cool and all. But what if you added a little spice?
My daily shower routine can feel a little repetitive after a while. I’m definitely not a big fan of doing the same thing over without any sort of change.
So, to fix this, I change things up every now and then:
- Try a new body wash
- Listen to music or a podcast
- Use a body scrub
4. Read or study in a new environment
Something else that can feel boring is working in the same place everyday.
I work at my desk most days. But if I want a change, I’ll take a trip downstairs and work in the living room for a bit.
It’s nice to have that change of scenery so you don’t get tired or uninspired.
Some places you can work are:
- A library
- A coffee shop
- On your patio
5. Enjoy a solo date
You don’t need anybody to go on a date!
I mean, of course it’s nice to enjoy a meal with someone, whether that’s a friend, family member, or significant other.
But you don’t have to wait on anybody to do anything! If you’ve been feeling down lately, want to try a new restaurant, or explore your area, go and do it yourself!
It can feel scary and weird when you first start. But as you keep doing it, you’ll really start to enjoy having that special time to yourself.
Here are some ideas:
- Play board games
- Do some online shopping
- Go to a wine-tasting event
- Have a park picnic
- Take a solo trip
THINK: Have you ever gone on a solo date? How was it? Tell me in the comments!
6. Embrace that “main character” energy
This post is all about embodying your inner main character. But you have to acknowledge and embrace it first!
It’s funny that I don’t want to be a YouTuber, but in my mind, I talk as if I am one. It’s like I’m talking to my audience and walking them through everything I do.
You can do the same! But actually turn it into reality, of course.
Buy a cheap camera (or even use your phone) and record your daily life. Record your morning routine, errands, and other activities.
So many moments are worth recording!
Even though these activities may not seem that interesting, it’s fun to go back and look at them a few years from now.
Don’t worry about likes, views, subscribers, and what-not. Just enjoy the art of filming!
7. Admire the sunset
There’s nothing more beautiful than the sunset. When you think of the sunset, you probably think of watching it on the beach.
While you can totally do this, there’s no need to take a trip to the beach to admire the sunset.
You can watch it from your own backyard and still enjoy it!
8. Make a gratitude list
As humans, we naturally long for more and more — even if we’re already massively blessed.
That’s just how we are! But what if you sat down and counted your blessings?
I’ll do this sometimes by making a gratitude list. I sit down with my notes app or a physical notebook and start listing everything/everyone I’m grateful for.
Even if you’re going through a difficult season, it’s important to remember that you’re blessed.

9. Say an affirmation in the mirror
One of the most healing and transformative things you can do for yourself is to reassure yourself of your strengths.
I’m sure you love compliments from others — and that’s great! We all feel fulfilled when someone positively comments on us.
But you can always be your biggest supporter.
Go to your mirror and say something called an affirmation. These are phrases that you say often to encourage a positive mindset.

10. Put on your best outfit
When you’re feeling down or want a change, you should put on a nice outfit.
There’s just something about a nice outfit that gives you a boost of confidence and improves your mood.
You know the phrase — “When you look good, you feel good.”
Sometimes I’ll wake up in a bad mood. But once I finish my morning routine, I feel a lot better. It happens every single time!
11. Practice mindful eating
Many times when we’re eating, we watch something to entertain us while we eat. This can cause you to overeat because you’re not slowing down to see how you feel.
You can fix this with by practicing mindful eating. With this technique, you slow down and be intentional about every bite you take.
It really helps you to stop overeating and actually enjoy your meal instead of chowing down (haha).
12. Buy yourself flowers
If you love getting flowers, change it up and buy some for yourself! Nobody said you only deserve them when someone else buys them for you!
Whether you had a bad day at work or you just got some good news, you can treat yourself to a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
They’ll make you feel special and loved.

13. Use an essential oil diffuser
I started doing this a few years ago and didn’t know I was doing aromatherapy until recent.
I absolutely LOVE using an essential oil diffuser because it’s a healthier, more holistic approach to using air freshner.
You can choose any essential oil you like, from lavender to chamomile, and so many others.
There are tons of diffusers out there, but you can find a pretty decent one on Amazon for about $25-35.
Oh, and don’t forget the oils! You can buy a multipack of them and you’ll be set for quite a while!
14. Go on a walk
I always feel good when I go on a walk. It feels so good to get out the house and observe my environment.
Every time I do this, I tell myself: “Man, I have to go on walks more often.”
There’s seriously NEVER a time that I regret going on a walk. It’s a good way to get things off your mind and get a breath of fresh air.
Even if it’s only 10 minutes, I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with your walk. So go and enjoy it!
15. Fancy up your favorite drink
You have your favorite drink and so do I. When I enjoy my favorite drink, I always like to put it in a nice mug or cup.
Seriously — I have a dedicated cup for drinks like sweet tea, Powerade, and lemonade. (These are my favorites if you didn’t know!)
The next time you want a sip of something, pour it in a nice cup. It really adds to the vibe!
