Your ultimate guide to the infamous everything shower, a trend that promotes self-care and total relaxation.
Although I am a personal development blogger by profession, I am in no way a mental health professional. See my disclaimer for more info.
Have you heard of the infamous everything shower? Chances are you have, but if you happen to live under a rock, you probably have no clue what I’m talking about.
The everything shower is an experinece that has been trending on social media — and for good reason. This experience promotes total self-care, relaxation, and rejuvenation. It’s definitely a long, tedious, tiring process, but it’s all worth it in the end.
By the end of this post, I hope you’ll have learned all about the benefits of an everything shower, how you can design your very own routine, essential products, and so much more.
If you’re ready, then I am, too. Let’s get into it!
THIS POST IS ALL ABOUT AN EVERYTHING SHOWER.
what is an everything shower?
Let’s start with the basics. You’re probably wondering, “What the heck is an everything shower, and why should I know about it?”
Allow me to educate you!
The everything shower is a viral ongoing trend mainly on TikTok. Like the name suggests, you do “everything” you need to do in the shower to feel like your cleanest, most rejuvenated self. This shower looks different for everyone.
For example, I like to listen to music during my everything showers. I also only take them about once or twice a month.
You, on the other hand, may prefer the bathroom to be silent during your everything showers and may take them much more often.
But that’s what’s so great about them! They’re so customizable, which allows you to create your very own routine that you look forward to.
why should you take an everything shower?
You should take an everything shower if you feel like your skin needs a nice deep clean. It’s also probably a good idea to take one if you need a way to wind down after a long day.
how long does an everything shower take?
Now this is where things start to diverge. There’s really no “one size fits all” duration for your everything shower. It depends largely on A) how long you can withstand the hot, steamy water and B) how many products you’re using and how thorough you are with everything.
That being said, your everything shower could easily last a good 2 hours. I know what sounds bonkers, but it’s true! There have been a few times where 2 hours passed while I was in the shower.
Did I feel like I was going to pass out afterward? Maybe, but I think it was worth it. I mean, I felt SO clean and refreshed.
Going to bed after taking an everything shower is simply one of the best feelings, and you have to experience it if you haven’t yet.
how often should you take an everything shower?
This is another controversial question on this topic.
I will say, though, try not to take everything showers TOO often.
These showers usually consist of letting hot water hit your skin and being in a steamy environment for a prolonged period of time, and that’s definitely not good for your skin in the long term.
A good rule of thumb is to take one everything shower each week. That way, you’re not running through your expensive, good-quality skincare products, over-exfoliating your skin, using a hair treatment too often, or any of the above.
Like I mentioned earlier, I take about 1-2 everything showers each month. You can absolutely go with that frequency, or change things up however you like.

pros + cons of an everything shower:
There are many pros and cons of taking an everything shower, including:
1. PRO: YOU FEEL SUPER CLEAN AFTERWARD
After all that scrubbing, there’s no doubt that you’ll feel squeaky clean when you finish your shower. I mean, I sure hope you’d feel that way after such an intense routine!
2. CON: YOU FEEL DRAINED AFTERWARD
This is probably the worst part about taking an everything shower. From being in that hot water for over an hour to doing all sorts of products, you’re going to feel tired when you step out that shower.
But that’s to be expected, right?
3. PRO: THE FEELING AFTERWARD IS UNMATCHED
After what truly feels like a workout, you get to lay in your bed and wind down for the night. And let me just say, it feels AMAZING.
Your legs are nice and smooth because you shaved, your hair smells amazing because you tested a new shampoo, and your skin feels like butter because you used the eos lotion.
The feeling is simply unmatched!
4. CON: IT CAN GET EXPENSIVE
Look, skincare is not cheap — especially the high-quality, long-lasting products. And after adding so many to your cart, things can look a bit, well, costly!
The good thing, though, is that if you buy good quality products from trusty brands, you should be able to get quite a few uses out of each product.
everything shower products
Alright, we’re done covering the basics. Now let’s get into the fun stuff. You can’t exactly build an everything shower routine if you don’t know what products to include in it.
So that’s why I’m here to give you some of my favorite product recommendations. I’m going to split these products up into 3 different sections: hair care, body care, and face care.
Hair Care
- Shampoo — I’m currently using the Nexxus Therappe Moisturizing Shampoo and I love it! It’s so cleansing and it actually leaves my scalp feeling moisturized and refreshed.
- Leave-in conditioner — My cousin recommended the Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner to me, I tried it, and I haven’t stopped using it since. It smells REALLY good and I love the consistency. No to mention, it lasts a while as long as you don’t use too much at once.
- Hair treatment — It’s been a while since I last used a hair treatment (in fact, I can’t even tell you the last time). But, you can try this one from Olaplex.
Body Care
- Bar soap — You can’t go wrong with a bar of Dove soap. I recommend the Dove Antibacterial soap bar for a nice, fresh clean.
- Body wash — Any body wash from Dove is superior. I love them because they smell great and foam up really well. I personally love the sensitive skin one because I don’t care for too many scented products. But, there are many fragrances to choose from!
- Body scrub — Once again, Dove reigns! I always reach for the Dove Body Polish because it’s neither too rough nor too gentle. It’s, like, right in the middle, and that’s why it’s the perfect in-shower exfoliator. The brown sugar & coco fragrance is my absolute favorite.
- Exfoliating gloves — You can get these anywhere, like Walmart, Amazon, or Target. Mine are from Target and they work pretty well. The ones I linked aren’t an exact match, but they’re similar enough!
- In-shower body lotion — I don’t use it that often, but when I do, I really enjoy it. When I do want to use it, I go for the Jergen’s body lotion.
- Shaving cream or gel — Usually when I shave, I use the eos shave cream. It works really well but I recently tried Tree Hut’s shaving oil and I really enjoyed that also.
- Razor — Make sure you get yourself a good razor for when it comes time to shave. To be honest, I get a different kind every time, but I’m currently using these and I like them! They come with extra razors, so that’s handy.
- Lotion — I just recently started using the eos Vanilla Cashmere lotion and OH MY GOSH. It smells amazing.
- Dry brush — I like using a dry brush to give myself an extra scrub. You don’t need anything fancy; you can find one from Amazon like I did.
- Loofah or African net sponge
Face Care
- Face mask — I love a good clay mask. The one I used to use is sadly no longer on Amazon, but the Aztec clay mask is just as good!
- Cleanser — I’ve tried quite a few cleansers and many worked pretty well. But there’s nothing like the La-Roche Posay Lipikar AP+ cleanser.
- Moisturizer — Pretty much the same thing I said about the cleanser; the matching moisturizer is amazing.

everything shower routine:
It’s finally time to talk about the actual routine. I’m not going to include all of the products from the previous section because that’s not realistic. I believe 16 products for a single shower is a bit excessive, so I’m going to allow room for nuance.
The steps below are essential for the perfect everything shower. Let’s get into the routine!
Step 1: Dry brush
Before you even get in the shower, take your dry brush and scrub your body. Make sure you get key areas like your arms, legs, and stomach.
This is going to get some of that dead skin off before you start washing your body and shaving.
Step 2: Wash your hair
Now, you definitely don’t have to start with your hair routine, but I suggest that you do. If you start with your hair, it allows time for the products to sit in your hair and work their magic.
So, start by washing your hair. Now’s probably a good time to use a clarifying shampoo because it’ll give a much deeper clean than your regular shampoo.
I know you might probably try to rush the process because you want to get it over with, but I want you to take your time. The purpose of taking an everything shower is to be thorough with and enjoy every single step!
If you decide to use a clarifying shampoo, don’t forget to follow up with a hydrating shampoo. Clarifying shampoos tend to be really drying, and you don’t want your hair to feel like the Sahara Desert.
Step 3: Apply your hair treatment or leave-in/deep conditioner
Once you’re done washing your hair, you can go ahead and apply your hair treatment or leave-in conditioner. Make sure you get it all nice and up in there!
Step 4: Wash your body
Now it’s time to start on body care. Grab your bar of soap and your loofah/African net sponge.
Make sure you start with the soap bar first. That’s what’s going to do most of the work of getting the dirt and grim off the surface of your skin.
Once you rinse that off, you can move onto using your body wash.
Step 5: Exfoliate
Grab your body scrub and start exfoliating. Scrub your feet, legs, arms, stomach, and back really well.
Step 6: Shave
If you want to shave, now’s the time to do so.
Step 7: Rinse out your hair treatment
Remember that hair treatment you applied earlier? Yeah, it’s about time to rinse that out!
Step 8: Wash your face
You can either do this in or out the shower. I personally prefer to wait until after I get out of the shower to wash my face, but I know many people like to do it in the shower.
Either way, use a good cleanser to get that dirt off your face.
Step 9: Step out & dry your body
Yay, you’re finally out of the shower! It’s time to dry your body with a nice, big towel. I suggest that you pat your skin dry. If you rub your skin, that can cause irritation and I’m sure you don’t want that happening.
Step 10: Apply lotion or body oil
After you finish drying your body, you can go ahead and apply your lotion or body oil. I usually switch between the two but I definitely tend to reach for lotion.
Step 11: Moisturize your face
Don’t forget to moisturize your face! Not only did you just wash it, but it was exposed to hot, steamy water for a while, so you don’t want it to get dry.
Step 12: Put on a comfy outift
You’re done! Celebrate by putting on a comfortable outfit and relaxing for the rest of the night.
