Birthdays are special, but they can be stressful sometimes. Read to learn about what to do on your birthday alone to avoid that stress.
Do you feel stressed when your birthday comes around?
Yeah, me too. My 19th birthday is right around the corner and I’ve been thinking more and more of just spending the day on my own. No family dinner or party, no bowling, no roller skating — none of it. I’m sure this sounds wild, but I really want to make my day as enjoyable as possible. And I think the best way to do that is by spending it, well, alone!
If you’ve had a few traumatic past birthdays, you’re totally not alone. I’ve had my fair share of them in last few years and I’m simply over it. This is actually what inspired this post!
So, let’s heal together. In this post, I’m going to tell you why spending your special day alone is a good idea, and share 20 activities to enjoy on your birthday.
Are you ready (I know this intro was long)? Let’s get into it!
THIS POST IS ALL ABOUT what to do on your birthday alone.
Why should you spend your birthday alone?
You might be wondering, “Why the heck would I spend my special day on my own?”
I totally get what you’re saying. Just a few years ago, I wouldn’t have been too open to the idea of spending my birthday alone, either. But, as I’ve grown, I’ve become more interested in doing so.
So, here are a few reasons to consider spending your birthday on your own (and no, it isn’t selfish):
1. You don’t have to worry about making (or sticking to) plans
One of the most stressful parts about your birthday is figuring out what you want to do. In fact, that’s something that inspired this post.
As I write this, my nineteenth birthday is in just over a week. Every time I think about what I want to do, I feel anxious, stressed, and — most of all — clueless.
I don’t want to feel this way, so I’m deciding to just spend the day alone and let things go how they’ll happen.
2. You’ll spend far less money
This is a rather obvious one. If you’re only planning for one person (AKA yourself), you’ll spend a much smaller amount of money. I don’t think it can get any better than that!
3. You’ll foster self-care
By spending your special day alone, you get the opportunity to foster self-care. You can do things to take care of every part of your life. In my opinion, that’s a pretty great way to spend your birthday, especially as you grow and mature.
You realize that your special day should be (and is) more about prioritizing yourself over anything or anyone else.
